Teeth can get severely damaged due to decay, infection, general wear and tear, or damage. When this happens, you will need endodontic care and possible root canal treatment.
At Tyneside Dental, we will put you at ease, recommend a course of treatment and provide you with the highest standards of care.
What is Endodontics?
The most common endodontic procedure is root canal treatment. During the process, infected tissue will be removed and the tooth sealed. This preserves the natural tooth structure, avoiding the need for extraction and saving the tooth.
Why choose Endodontics?
Endodontic treatment can help to prevent further infection from spreading from the tooth’s root canal to other parts of the mouth. By addressing the infection, patients can enjoy improved oral health overall and reduce the risk of further complications.
The treatment will restore function in the tooth, allowing you to use it as normal without pain or discomfort.
Benefits of Root Canal Treatment
- Saves your natural teeth
- Eliminates pain and infection
- Improves your smile
- Avoids further complications
Your Endodontics Journey
Root canal treatment is usually carried out in two appointments. In the first appointment, your dentist will take an x-ray then give you a local anaesthetic. Your dentist will then carefully remove the pulp chamber and nerves at the centre of your tooth. They will then clean the root canal system, reshape it, and remove any inflammation and the causes of infection.
To prevent bacterial re-infection from occurring the dentist will then place temporary filling material inside the root canals.
At your second appointment, your dentist will remove the filling and replace it with a permanent root canal fitting. You may also be offered a crown to further protect your tooth.
Generally, it takes 7 to 10 days to recover from root canal treatment.
At Tyneside Dental, we take the utmost care to ensure you are comfortable throughout the process, saving your tooth and avoiding extraction.
