How much will I pay for dental treatment on the NHS?

Under certain circumstances, you may be able to get NHS dental treatment for free. Find out more here.

If you do need to pay, you’ll pay a fee determined by what treatment you are receiving and which NHS dental charge band it falls into. There are three bands:

Band 1: £25.80

This fee includes dental examinations, diagnosis, planning for further treatment, emergency dentistry services and x-rays, and a scale and polish (if needed).

Band 2: £70.70

This fee covers everything in band one, including fillings, root canal treatments, extractions and any additional treatment.

Band 3: £306.80

This fee covers the treatment included in bands one and two as well as complex procedures like crowns, dentures and bridges.

If you have any questions regarding dental fees, please speak to your dentist for personalised information.

There will also be no charge if you need your dentures repaired, stitches removed, your dentist has to stop blood loss or they have to write a prescription. However, if you pay for prescriptions, you’ll need to pay the usual prescription charge.
